In January 2017 the Brandon Sun newspaper celebrated their 135th Anniversary of publication. Within two month's of serving wine and cake, Publisher Jim Mihaly began the first round of devastating layoffs and cuts to the daily paper. In 2022 the skeleton staff left at the paper, down to under two dozen, from over 100 a decade prior, moved out of their storied building, and into a small office in the Town Centre mall.
